Commonly used acupoints to stop vomiting in clinical practice include the foot-sanli acupoint, the middle epigastric point, the stomach acupoint, and the Neiguan acupoint.
Vomiting is a disease caused by various reasons, such as loss of harmony and descent of the stomach (obstruction of the stomach’s descending function) and upward reversal of stomach qi (stomach qi rising instead of descending), forcing stomach contents to be vomited out of the mouth. The acupoints commonly used to stop vomiting in clinical practice are as follows:
1. Foot Sanli Acupuncture Point: It is an acupoint of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, located on the lateral side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the calf’s nose point, on the line between the calf’s nose and the Xiexi. It has the effect of tonifying the middle and benefiting the qi (treating qi deficiency by tonifying the spleen), strengthening the spleen and harmonizing the stomach, and is mainly used for treating gastrointestinal diseases such as stomach pain, vomiting and constipation.
2. Middle Epigastric Acupuncture Point: It is an acupoint on the Ren Vein, located in the abdomen, on the anterior midline, 4 inches above the umbilicus. It has the effect of eliminating food and stagnation, and is mainly used for treating stomach pain, bloating, vomiting and other diseases of the spleen and stomach.
3. Stomach Point: It is an acupoint of the Foot Solar Bladder Meridian, located in the spinal region of the back, under the spinous process of the 12th thoracic vertebrae, 1.5 inches away from the rear center line. It has the efficacy of warming the middle and lowering the rebelliousness (warming the stomach to prevent the stomach qi from rising), harmonizing the stomach and stopping vomiting, and is mainly used for treating stomach pain, abdominal distension, vomiting, and bowel sounds.
4. Neiguan Point: an acupoint of the Pericardium Meridian of the Syncope Yin of the Hand, located in the anterior region of the forearm, 2 inches above the transverse stripe on the distal side of the palm of the wrist, between the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis brevis and the tendon of the palmaris longus muscle. It has the effect of calming the heart and tranquilizing the mind, harmonizing the stomach and lowering rebelliousness (harmonizing the stomach qi and making the upward rebellious qi descend), and is mainly used to treat stomach pain, vomiting and other diseases of the stomach and internal organs.
If vomiting and other physical discomfort occurs, it is recommended that massage antiemetic treatment be carried out under the guidance of a professional physician, and the acupuncture operation must be carried out by a professional physician.
