Is portal hypertensive gastropathy always cirrhosis?

Portal hypertensive gastropathy is not necessarily caused by cirrhosis, but may also be caused by tumors, portal vein thrombosis and Bugart’s syndrome. Cirrhosis is the most common cause of portal hypertension, but it is not the only cause. Other conditions such as tumors in the abdominal cavity compressing the portal vein, portal vein thrombosis due to various reasons, and Bugart’s syndrome can all lead to portal hypertension and thus the development of portal hypertensive gastropathy. In general, when portal hypertension occurs, cirrhosis should be considered first, and other diseases should be considered and treated only after cirrhosis has been ruled out. Once portal hypertension occurs, it is necessary to prevent and treat gastrointestinal bleeding in time, and it is recommended to go to a regular hospital for endoscopic examination and treatment.
