How often children with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis enter end-stage renal disease

How long it takes for children with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis to enter end-stage renal disease mainly depends on factors such as typing and treatment effect. In case of collapsed type, the response to treatment is poor and progresses rapidly, and most of them enter end-stage renal disease within 2 years; most of the apical type is effective in glucocorticoid treatment and has a good prognosis; other types with poor treatment effect may enter end-stage renal disease in 6-10 years. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a primary nephrotic syndrome, which is more common in adolescents and less common in children, and some of them may be transformed from microscopic lesion nephropathy, which is more common in children. Most of the apical type of glucocorticoid therapy is effective, the prognosis is good, and the time to enter end-stage renal disease varies from person to person. In the case of collapsed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, the response to treatment is poor and the progression is rapid, and most of them will enter end-stage renal disease within 2 years; more than half of the patients with other types of ineffective treatment may enter end-stage renal disease in 6 to 10 years. If children are found with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals in time for consultation and standardized treatment under doctors’ guidance.
