There are three main reasons for the enlargement of adenoids: first, physiological enlargement of adenoids, which peaks in children at the age of 6-7 years and then slowly shrinks, and in adults the adenoids will shrink. Second, pathological enlargement, pathological enlargement may be the inflammation of the adenoids themselves, that is, adenoiditis, inflammatory stimulation leads to the enlargement of the adenoids. Third, inflammation of adjacent organs stimulates the adenoids, such as tonsillitis below the adenoids, or inflammation of the nasal cavity and sinuses in front of the adenoids, inflammation of these parts can spread or purulent secretions stimulate, which can cause adenoid hypertrophy. For adenoid hypertrophy, if it is physiological hypertrophy, the patient has no symptoms and does not need to be treated. If the hypertrophy is caused by irritation of the surrounding organs, the inflammation of the surrounding organs should be treated. Adenoid hypertrophy may need to be removed if it interferes with breathing.
