If you wake up with a sore eye, if it is accompanied by redness and swelling of the eyelid skin, especially in the inner and outer corners of the eyelid and the redness is more painful to the touch, or if there is significant pain when you blink, consider it a whealsore, which is a bacterial infection of the lid gland, commonly known as a needle’s eye. It is usually treated in an anti-inflammatory manner, using levofloxacin drops or Tobex eye drops with Tobex eye ointment or Gatifloxacin eye ointment. If the redness is more intense and the pain is more pronounced, systemic anti-inflammatory treatment with oral antibiotics such as cephalosporin may be considered. Usually mild wheals can subside in 1-2 weeks. If abscesses and pus form, incision and drainage will be required, and this condition will take 1-2 months to completely subside.
