Difference between Artichoke and Fei Lian

The difference between artichoke and Feilian lies in the different efficacy, main treatment and contraindication, which are analyzed as follows. 1. Efficacy: Artichoke is sweet, bitter and cool in nature. It belongs to heart and liver meridians. Its efficacy is to cool the blood to stop bleeding (make the blood cool and moist to prevent bleeding), disperse blood stasis and remove toxins to eliminate carbuncle. Feilian is slightly bitter in flavor and cool in nature. It belongs to the liver meridian. Its effects include clearing heat and inducing dampness (removing heat and dampness from the body), cooling the blood and dispersing blood stasis. 2. Indications: Artichoke is mainly used in the treatment of epistaxis, vomiting blood, blood in urine, blood in stool, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling), traumatic bleeding, carbuncle, swelling and sores. Fei Lian is mainly used in the treatment of colds and coughs, gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and astringent pain), leucorrhoea, rheumatic paralysis, blood in urine, bruises and other conditions. 3. Contraindications: Artichoke is contraindicated for people with deficiency cold of spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach weak and cold), and people with deficiency cold and bleeding. The contraindication of Feilian is that it is not used by those who have deficiency cold in spleen and stomach without blood stasis. The contraindications of the combination of the herbs are bad ephedra, as recorded in the Collected Notes on the Classic of Materia Medica.
