Swollen eyes in the morning are usually seen for two reasons: one is nephrogenic edema; the other is drinking too much water at night. The main mechanism of nephritic edema is that the patient’s blood albumin level decreases due to proteinuria, which leads to a decrease in plasma colloid osmotic pressure, resulting in water reaching outside the blood vessels from inside the vessels. There is also a mechanism by which patients with nephritis may experience a decrease in glomerular filtration rate, which leads to a decrease in water excretion and nephritic edema, or swollen eyes in the morning. 2. Drinking more water at night, if the water cannot be excreted in time after drinking more water at night, this will lead to swollen eyes the next morning. So for this case usually ask the patient to drink less water at night, and the edema can be significantly improved the next morning.
