Hawthorn and Chinese yam are both of the same origin. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, hawthorn has the effect of eliminating food and strengthening the stomach, promoting the flow of qi and removing turbidity, while yam has the effect of tonifying the spleen and benefiting qi, astringent and stopping leucorrhoea. Boiling the two together also has the above effects. However, hawthorn should be used with caution for people with weak spleen and stomach without stagnation and high gastric acid secretion, and yam should not be used for people with dampness (too much dampness leading to fullness and discomfort in the spleen and stomach) or stagnation.

Hawthorn is effective in eliminating food and strengthening stomach, promoting circulation of Qi and dispersing blood stasis, resolving turbidity and lowering fat (cleansing the body of impurities and reducing body fat), and can be used in the treatment of stagnation of meat and food, distension of stomach and epigastric region, abdominal pain and diarrhea, diarrhea and dysentery, hernia pain, blood stasis and menstrual occlusion (stopping menstruation due to stasis and blood stagnation), menstrual cramps, post-partum stagnant and obstructive abdominal pain, stabbing pain of the heart and abdomen, palsy of the chest, hyperlipidaemia and other conditions.
Note that this product should be used with caution for people with weak spleen and stomach without stagnation and excessive secretion of gastric acid.
2. The effect of yam is to benefit qi and nourish yin, nourish spleen, lung and kidney, astringent essence and stopping leucorrhea, which can be used for the treatment of spleen deficiency with little food, loose stools, excessive leucorrhea, lung deficiency with wheezing and coughing, and deficiency heat and thirst.
Note that this product can help dampness by nourishing yin, so it should not be used for people with dampness or stagnation in the middle of the body.
