Treatment of periodic lower limb paralysis in children

Periodic lower limb paralysis in children is categorized into low potassium periodic paralysis and high potassium periodic paralysis etc. It can be improved by general treatment and medication.
1. Low-potassium periodic paralysis: 10% potassium citrate and 10% potassium chloride can be used to treat the attack, and potassium salt and spironolactone can be taken orally during the intermittent attacks. Excessive dampness, cold, strenuous exercise and tension should be avoided to avoid triggering the attack.
2. Hyperkalemic periodic paralysis: it usually manifests as symmetrical weakness and complete paralysis of different degrees, with the lower limbs being more serious than the upper limbs. During the seizure period, 10% calcium gluconate or insulin can be used for treatment. During the intermittent seizure period, a high carbohydrate diet can be given to avoid strenuous exercise, and acetazolamide is preferred as a diuretic to excrete potassium.
There are other treatments for periodic paralysis of the lower limbs in children, and it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to clarify the type of periodic paralysis of the lower limbs and treat the cause.
