Orlistat works in principle as a gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor by inactivating gastric lipase and pancreatic lipase. Orlistat is a long-acting, potent and specific inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipase. It binds to gastric lipase and pancreatic lipase in the small intestine to form covalent bonds, inactivating the enzymes, which are unable to hydrolyze fats into absorbable substances, thus reducing calorie intake and achieving weight control. Orlistat is used to treat obese or overweight people. Adverse reactions can be seen as increased gastrointestinal emissions, fatty (oily) stools, urgency of stools, steatorrhea, fecal incontinence, and increased frequency of stools. This product is contraindicated in pregnant women, those who are allergic to any of the components of the product, cholestasis, chronic malabsorption syndrome, organic obesity. It should be used rationally under the guidance of a doctor.
