Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence is mainly composed of Chen Pi, Chai Hu, Chuan Xiong, Xiang Fu, Citrus aurantium, Paeonia lactiflora, and Glycyrrhiza glabra. It has the effects of dredging the liver and regulating qi (relieving stagnation in the liver and smoothing qi), activating blood and relieving pain (moving blood to relieve pain).
Chai Hu Shu Hepatophoresan is a qi regulating agent, and is often used clinically for treating liver qi stagnation syndrome (a series of symptoms arising from liver qi stagnation that does not run smoothly). Symptoms include pain in the ribs (pain in the chest and ribcage), chest tightness (tightness in the chest), fullness in the stomach and abdomen (fullness and discomfort in the stomach and abdomen); or irritability, tai hua (sighing all the time), and astringent pulse.
Caution This product tends to deplete qi and injure yin (depletion of qi, blood and yin fluid) and should not be taken for a long time. It should not be taken by those with obvious symptoms of yin deficiency (a series of symptoms manifested by deficiency of yin fluid). Adverse effects and contraindications are not known.
