There are no drugs that can effectively cure varicose veins. Clinical treatments for varicose veins can be categorized into non-surgical and surgical treatments. Corresponding medication is only for the symptoms of varicose veins, which may be effective and may show improvement within three days, but it cannot cure varicose veins at all. Non-surgical treatment is suitable for patients with varicose veins of the lower limbs who have mild symptoms or do not want to undergo surgery. The symptoms of varicose veins can be relieved by wearing medical compression stockings or applying medical compression bandages to compress the varicose veins. Patients should also avoid prolonged standing and sitting, avoid strenuous physical activities, and elevate the affected limb intermittently to reduce symptoms. Non-surgical treatments can only relieve the symptoms but not cure varicose veins. For patients for whom non-surgical treatments are ineffective, surgical treatments should be considered, and the commonly used surgical procedures are high saphenous vein ligation and varicose vein stripping. Once varicose veins become symptomatic, they develop faster in the long term than in the early stages. Therefore, once varicose veins are diagnosed, they should be treated in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
