Screening for hypertension is done to detect the presence of hypertension by the cause of hypertension and the damage to target organs caused by hypertension. The causes of hypertension are categorized as primary or secondary. Primary hypertension is of unknown etiology and is mainly screened for secondary hypertension, mainly in people with bad lifestyle habits, prolonged alcohol consumption, and patients with renal or endocrine diseases, together with routine urinalysis, cortisol and other monitoring, to clarify the presence of secondary hypertension. Target organ damage in hypertension is mainly monitored by cardiac ultrasound, carotid ultrasound, cranial CT, and other aspects to assess whether there is target organ damage. Funduscopic examination can also be performed to determine whether there is target organ damage in the fundus. There are other screening programs for hypertension, such as thyroid function monitoring, etc., which patients are advised to perform under the guidance of their physicians.
