Post-treatment follow-up for lung cancer

To date, there is no definitive evidence as to what intensity of post-treatment follow-up is better in patients with lung cancer. Two retrospective studies have examined the intensity and outcomes of follow-up and concluded that there was no effect on overall survival. Nonetheless, a post-treatment patient follow-up schedule of every 3 months for the first 2 years, every 6 months after 2 years until 5 years, and annually thereafter is advocated. The follow-up consists of a medical history and physical examination, with special attention to the bilateral supraclavicular lymph nodes; a chest X-ray is also necessary. From the perspective of potency ratio, CT of the chest and abdomen, CT or MRI of the brain, bone scan and bronchoscopy are performed accordingly when the patient is symptomatic, with the exception of special cases.
