How long can you live with early stage lung cancer?

The survival time of early stage lung cancer patients is related to the period of detection, treatment method and individual patient’s condition, and cannot be generalized. In case of clinical stage I lung cancer patients with good physical condition and no spread and metastasis in the past, they can undergo thorough surgical treatment and the 5-year survival rate is about 90%. In case of clinical stage II patients, the 5-year survival rate is about 50% after surgical treatment. When patients have combined serious medical diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and respiratory diseases, they may not be able to tolerate surgery and anesthesia, and can be treated by stereotactic radiation therapy, i.e. focused destructive treatment of tumor locally by radiation, to achieve similar treatment effect as surgery. In conclusion, lung tumors detected early usually have a better prognosis and patients have a longer survival period, so it is recommended to have regular annual health checkups for early detection of the disease.
