The treatment of popliteal cysts is not related to size. If the cyst is simple and asymptomatic, it can be observed; if localized pain and other symptoms occur, treatment is needed.
Popliteal cysts are generally benign masses. If they are simple masses that do not compress the nerves and blood vessels, causing symptoms such as numbness and insensibility, pain or ischemia in the limbs, they can be observed and periodically reviewed.
When the popliteal cyst compresses the nerves and surrounding tissues, causing local pain or swelling and numbness of the lower limbs, or even symptoms such as nerve damage, it needs to be treated as early as possible, or it may lead to complications such as limited knee flexion and extension, and rupture of the cyst.
If patients have popliteal cysts, it is recommended to have regular medical checkups to facilitate early treatment.
