Xiao Chai Hu is available in the formula Xiao Chai Hu Tang and the proprietary Chinese medicine Xiao Chai Hu Granules in different dosage forms, of which the formula and dosage are also different.
Xiao Chaihu Tang is a Chinese medicine formula with 9g each of licorice (roasted), ginger (sliced), hemixia, scutellaria, ginseng, 24g of chaihu, and 4 jujubes.
1. Xiao Chaihu Tang is used to solve the problem of Shao Yang (treating exogenous fever with evil between half-expression and half-li), treating cold and heat, lack of desire for food and drink, bitter mouth and dry throat, heartburn and nausea; the adverse reactions, contraindications and precautions are not clear.
2. Xiao Chaihu Granules is used for symptomatic relief of exterior heat and dispersal of heat, detoxification of liver and stomach, for the symptom of evil attacking the Shaoyang (the evil is stagnating between the exterior and interior of the body), manifesting as cold and heat (the body is hot for a while and cold for a while), loss of appetite, bitter fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (the chest feels distended and uncomfortable at the front and both sides of the chest), and bitter taste and dryness of mouth and pharynx; the adverse effects and contraindications are still unclear; note that those with wind-cold colds are not suitable.
