In Chinese medicine, nasopharyngeal cancer is categorized as nasobuccal abyss (mainly manifested as filthy nasal mucus, which is too abundant to be wiped clean), and it needs to be clinically diagnosed and treated, and there is no so-called single-prescription herbal medicine, and commonly used prescriptions in clinic include Yin Qiao San, Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San, Gan Gan Disinfectant and so on. If patients suffer from nasopharyngeal cancer, it is recommended to go to hospital for surgery or radiotherapy in time. 1. Lung meridian wind-heat: patients often show symptoms such as excessive and sticky snot, headache and wind, loss of sense of smell, red tongue with thin and white fur and floating pulse, etc. The formula often used is Yin Qiao San plus subtractions. 2. Spleen deficiency and dampness (weak function of the spleen, dampness stays): the patient has white sticky nasal mucus, reduced sense of smell, heavy nasal congestion, reddish nasal mucous membrane, poor appetite and dullness (lack of appetite, reduced food intake), abdominal distension and loose stools (sparse and unshaped feces), and fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen). The formula often used is Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San plus subtractions. 3. Damp-heat in the spleen and stomach (the spleen and stomach feel damp-heat evil): the patient has yellowish nasal discharge, headache, loss of sense of smell, red tongue with yellowish greasy coating, slippery pulse, head and body drowsiness (heaviness in the head and limbs), and fatigue of the limbs, etc. The formula often used is Ganluo Disinfectant Dan plus reduction. Ganlu Sterilizing Dan plus subtractions are often used. It is difficult to achieve a complete cure by pure Chinese medicine treatment, but traditional Chinese medicine theories can be applied in different stages of cancer to identify and treat the disease, which can improve the clinical efficacy, the quality of patient’s life and prolong the survival period, and a combination of Chinese and western medicine is often chosen in the treatment of cancer. The above prescriptions should be used by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners after diagnosis, avoiding self-medication to avoid adverse consequences.
