How to tell if you have hives

Urticaria is a sudden onset of flat erythema, a wind-blown mass, accompanied by a pronounced itching sensation. The rash can subside on its own within 24 hours, but it tends to recur, and in severe cases, there is also a rapid heart rate, a drop in blood pressure, and edema of the throat. The main treatment is to choose antihistamines, and avoid contact with suspected allergens and hot and cold stimuli. The main oral drugs are the second generation antihistamines loratadine, cetirizine and fexofenadine, and the first generation antihistamines paracetamol and cyproheptadine. When anaphylaxis or laryngeal edema occurs, epinephrine and glucocorticoid treatment should be given promptly.
