Normal eye: In a healthy eye, the lens is transparent and light can be refracted through the lens to reach the retina and form clear vision.
Cataract: A cataract is actually a clouding of the lens that prevents the normal transmission of light, and blurred vision occurs.
With the development of science and technology, the quality of IOLs is comparable to that of healthy human crystals. Currently, medical treatment can be performed by surgically removing the clouded lens and implanting an IOL to allow cataract patients to get rid of the darkness and see a clear world again.
Cataracts are a common eye disease and are currently the leading eye disease causing blindness in both developed and developing countries. Cataracts are associated with aging, genetic factors, excessive exposure to ultraviolet light, and certain inflammatory diseases within the eye. They usually develop in both eyes, but the onset can be sequential and vary in severity. Cataracts can also be caused by trauma.
Cataracts most often occur in people over the age of 50, while highly myopic, diabetic patients develop cataracts earlier. Cataracts are not yet preventable. Surgery has been shown to be the most effective and the only way to treat cataracts.
