What is the relationship between leukaemia and perianal abscess?

Leukaemia patients have impaired proliferation and differentiation processes of immune cells such as leukocytes, causing the patient’s immune system to malfunction and make them more susceptible to a variety of infectious diseases. The perianal area is warm, moist and prone to the growth of pathogenic bacteria due to its proximity to mucous membranes in certain areas.
Perianal abscesses are a common condition in patients with leukaemia and often occur together with patients with leukaemia. Not only do they seriously affect the quality of life of patients with leukaemia, but when not properly controlled, they can easily lead to other serious adverse consequences as the infection progresses or spreads.
