Infants with fever and convulsions

Infants with fever and convulsions are likely to have febrile convulsions. The seizure can be helped by applying pressure to acupuncture points such as Renzhong and Hegu, and giving oral antipyretic medications, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, in appropriate doses orally according to the baby’s weight. Physical cooling can also be performed, including reducing the baby’s clothing and keeping the baby in a cool, comfortable and ventilated environment. Babies who have cold hands and feet with chills can soak their hands and feet in warm water. If the baby is in good spirits, with warm hands and feet and no chills, you can use an ice pack or ice cubes to apply cold compresses to the baby’s head. For babies with fever leading to convulsions and a tendency to have recurrent attacks, Valium can be given orally at the beginning of the attack for 2-3 days or until the temperature of this attack returns to normal. If the child has repeated convulsions, poor mental health or even coma during a single episode, a central nervous system infection needs to be considered and immediate medical attention must be sought.
