What makes a breast hard?

A hard lump in the breast, also called a breast mass, can be detected by palpation and compared with the normal tissue of the opposite breast. If the softness and hardness of the palpation is different from the normal tissue, then it is a breast mass, and it is often a manifestation of certain diseases. Breast lump can be seen in breast lobular hyperplasia, breast fibroadenoma, breast cancer and other diseases.
1. Lobular hyperplasia: Lobular hyperplasia is a kind of non-tumor, non-inflammatory proliferative lesion, which occurs in women of childbearing age, and is closely related to menstrual cycle and emotional changes, and clinically manifested as breast pain and breast lumps, which can be found in unilateral or bilateral breast, single or multiple, and the shape of which can be lumpy, nodular, striated, granular and so on.
2. Breast fibroadenoma: Breast fibroadenoma is a common benign tumor of breast, which is mainly caused by the abnormal increase of the sensitivity of fibroblasts to estrogen in the lobules of the breast, and is clinically manifested as a movable breast lump, often without other symptoms.
3. Breast cancer: Breast cancer is a malignant tumor originated from the epithelium of the breast, which can be manifested as breast lump, nipple and areola changes in the early stage, and this breast lump is often a single, painless lump with hard texture and unclear boundary with the surrounding tissues.
