Scutellaria baicalensis has the effects of clearing heat and drying dampness (removing heat and drying dampness), diarrhea and detoxification (removing fire and poison from the body), stopping bleeding, and tranquilizing the fetus. It is used for treating dampness-warmth (warmth caused by feeling dampness-heat), summer-dampness, chest congestion and vomiting, damp-heat plumpness (stomach distension and discomfort), jaundice and diarrhea, lung-heat coughing, and high fever and thirst.
1. Dampness and warmth, summer dampness, chest tightness and vomiting, damp-heat lumps and fullness, jaundice and diarrhea: Scutellaria baicalensis is bitter and cold in nature, and functions in clearing heat and drying dampness, good at clearing damp-heat in the lungs, stomach, gallbladder, and large intestine, and is especially good at clearing damp-heat in the middle and upper jiao.
2. Lung-heat cough, high fever and thirst: Scutellaria baicalensis is mainly used in lung meridian, good at clearing and diarrhea of lung fire and solid heat in the upper burner, used to treat lung-heat congestion caused by cough and phlegm, lung-heat cough and asthma, lung-heat cough with much phlegm.
