Laparoscopic thyroid surgery

The neck is an important part of the body that reflects its beauty. Traditional thyroid surgery leaves obvious scars on the neck, which seriously affects the aesthetics. With the development of laparoscopic surgery, a surgical method that can remove the tumor without affecting the aesthetics of the neck has emerged – laparoscopic thyroid surgery. Its advantage is that the neck incision is tiny or the incision is designed in a hidden place, and the scar is almost invisible or no scar in the neck with excellent cosmetic effect. Since the late 1990s, laparoscopic thyroid surgery has been widely used around the world. In China, this technique has been developed rapidly because of the large population and the high relative prevalence of thyroid disease, and it is increasingly accepted because of its hidden incision (incision size 0.5-1 CM in the thoracic breast area), small scar, and fast postoperative recovery. Since 2011, our hospital has carried out lumpectomy thyroid surgery, all of which have achieved satisfactory results. The current indications include: unilateral or bilateral benign adenomas, cysts, and nodules; hyperthyroidism with normal or mildly enlarged gland size; papillary thyroid carcinoma less than 1 cm in diameter, no invasion of the gland surface, and no enlarged lymph nodes next to the central group carotid artery.
