How to treat chronic hypertrophic rhinitis

The purpose of local treatment for chronic hypertrophic rhinitis varies depending on the lesions at each stage. In the stage of nasal mucosal hypertrophy without obvious hyperplasia, the normal function of the nasal mucosa should be restored; if there is obvious hyperplasia, the main focus should be to reduce nasal symptoms and restore pulmonary function. Early application of vasoconstrictors, inferior turbinate sclerotherapy injection, laser therapy, cryotherapy, microwave therapy, submucosal electrocoagulation, etc. will produce scar tissue under the local mucosa and shrink the turbinates. In case of mucosal hypertrophy, partial inferior (or middle) turbinate excision is applied. The principle of removing the mucosa should not exceed 1/3 of the inferior turbinate. In case of inferior turbinate hypertrophy, inferior turbinate osteotomy and inferior turbinate fracture externalization are feasible.
