For example, eating 1 to 3 times a month can reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation by 3%; while if you eat 1 to 2 times a week nuts, you can reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation by 12%; if you eat ≥ 3 times a week nuts, you can reduce the risk by 18%. And eating an extra serving of nuts per week reduced the risk of atrial fibrillation by 4%. In this study, however, those who ate nuts were more educated and had healthier lifestyles, and rarely smoked or had a history of high blood pressure. They loved sports, were fit, and ate more fruits and vegetables, although they also often drank alcohol. The researchers noted that people who ate nuts had fewer cardiovascular risk factors or influenced the study results, but their study sample size was larger and nuts are rich in minerals and antioxidants, both of which are beneficial to cardiovascular health.
