Pulsed radiofrequency for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a common disease that causes knee pain and lower limb dysfunction in a large number of middle-aged and elderly patients. Its incidence is increasing year by year with the increase of aging population in our society. Patients usually feel knee pain, swelling, popping, restricted movement, weakness, and playing with weak legs. Some patients have significant pain when walking on flat roads, while others have severe pain when walking up and down stairs and squatting. Patients often feel cold in the knee joint and need to wear knee pads frequently. In severe cases, patients can only sleep on their backs at night, as the pain is aggravated when lying on their sides. As a result, normal life is seriously affected. Traditional treatments for this disease include functional knee exercises, weight reduction, physical therapy, acupuncture, braces, oral or topical medications, and intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid or hormones. For patients with pain and deformity for which these treatments are ineffective, knee replacement surgery is usually the only option. Pulsed radiofrequency surgery is a new technique for pain treatment that has emerged in recent years and has the following advantages: 1. Minor trauma: no skin incision is made during the surgery, which is done through cannula needle, leaving no scars after the surgery. 2.Safety: the operation is performed under local anesthesia, and the interference to the patient’s whole body can be minimized. At the same time, the working temperature of radio frequency is low, and there is almost no damage to nerves and other important tissues. 3, the analgesic effect is exact: the patient’s pain can be significantly relieved on the second day after the operation, and can go down to the ground, and can take a bath three days after the operation, and basically resume normal life.
