China’s public smoking rate has been high, coupled with air pollution, occupational exposure, allergies and other risk factors, more and more respiratory diseases are jeopardizing people’s health and can easily lead to impaired lung function. At present, there are more than 38 million patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in China, and the prevalence rate of COPD among people over 40 years old is as high as 8.2%; 2.5 people die of COPD every minute, and more than 1 million people die of COPD and more than 5 million people become disabled every year. According to statistics, more than 1/3 of patients with COPD have no obvious symptoms, and when they find that they are out of breath after a few steps on the stairs and then go to the examination, the damage to their lung function has already reached an irreversible level, and the mortality rate is as high as 20% to 30%, which greatly affects the quality of life of the patients. Therefore, lung function tests are very important for the early detection and treatment of respiratory diseases. Lung function tests are a technique that uses a spirometer to test the amount (lung volume) and rate (lung flow) of gas inhaled and exhaled by the lungs to see if respiratory function is normal. Pulmonary function tests are very simple, quick, non-invasive and generally require no special preparation. It takes only 3-5 minutes to complete a routine lung function test. All you need to do is to follow your doctor’s instructions and blow forcefully into the instrument. There are more items of pulmonary function tests, which are aimed at understanding the physiological state of the respiratory system, clarifying the mechanism and type of pulmonary dysfunction, determining the degree of lesion damage, estimating the functional reserve of the lungs, and providing reference for medical treatment. Lung function test is mainly used for the following purposes: 1, early detection of respiratory and lung diseases; 2, identify the causes of dyspnea, determine the location of airway obstruction; 3, assess the severity of lung diseases; 4, health checkup, assessment of labor intensity and tolerance, etc.; 5, assessment of surgical tolerance and the likelihood of postoperative complications. Lung function tests, like chest X-ray and electrocardiogram, should be included as part of routine health checkups, and anyone over the age of 40 should have regular lung function tests. Five groups of people must have regular lung function tests: First, long-term smokers If you have smoked for a long time or have smoked a large amount of cigarettes, no matter how old you are, you should have your lung function tested. Because, smoking can cause bronchitis and emphysema, leading to reduced lung function and the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In the early stages, even if lung function decreases, you may not have any conscious symptoms, and often feel shortness of breath and dyspnea only when the decrease in lung function is more pronounced. Lung function tests can detect reduced lung function at an early stage and help prevent COPD. People with chronic cough and sputum Repeated coughing and sputum production indicate the presence of airway or lung diseases, which may cause reduced lung function. Third, people with dyspnea If chest tightness and shortness of breath occur after activity, especially those who are gradually aggravated, it is important to think about whether there is a problem with lung function, and need to do lung function tests. However, the elderly, often do not pay enough attention to this, thinking that walking, climbing stairs shortness of breath is the reason for age. Fourth, people working in special environments If the working environment, to contact with polluted gases, dust, etc., can lead to occupational lung disease, lung function reduction. Fifth, patients with respiratory diseases Bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients regularly check lung function, not only to reflect the disease, but also to further guide drug therapy. Other diseases, such as pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, etc., need to regularly check lung function, in order to fully understand the impact of the disease on the lungs, according to the test indicators early detection of lung disorders. It is hoped that people will pay more attention to the damage of lung function and go into major hospitals for lung function tests for early detection of respiratory diseases such as COPD, bronchial asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, etc., so as to achieve the goal of early diagnosis, professional treatment, free breathing and easy living.
