How are hormones used in the treatment of peripheral facial palsy?

The use of hormones in the early stages of facial palsy can effectively suppress nerve edema and is beneficial to the recovery of facial nerve function. The timing of hormone therapy should be as early as possible and should be started within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms. The use of hormone therapy can be done in conjunction with acupuncture therapy. However, hormones are not suitable for every patient. First of all, if the facial palsy has been over a week and the peak of nerve edema has passed, the use of hormones is not very meaningful; in addition, it is important to pay attention to the side effects of hormones. The elderly, patients with hypertension, diabetes, tumors, patients with severe osteophytes, patients with tuberculosis and patients with uncontrolled infections should be very cautious, and some of them are prohibited.
