What can be detected by optometry

Optometry can detect refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and amblyopia. If the bare eye vision does not meet the minimum vision standard for the appropriate age group, the doctor will do an optometric examination and if refractive error is detected, i.e., myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, the patient will be instructed to wear appropriate glasses. If there is amblyopia, in addition to the appropriate glasses, amblyopia training will be done. If the refractive error is not detected by the optometric examination, then further eye examination is required for organic pathology, keratitis, cataract, fundus disease and vitreous disease.
