Hyperbaric medicine was developed in the early twentieth century on the basis of diving medicine. What is hyperbaric oxygen? Breathing oxygen in a high pressure environment is called hyperbaric oxygen (HBO). The application of hyperbaric oxygen to treat a variety of diseases is known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe and reliable physical therapy. The professional construction and development of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Hyperbaric Oxygen Department is almost synchronized with the development of international hyperbaric medicine. After nearly 40 years of efforts, our department has become the center of clinical treatment, scientific research, teaching, information exchange and professional training of hyperbaric medicine in China. Our department has a group of three chambers and seven doors of hyperbaric air chambers. After several times of renovation, it has double pipelines for oxygen intake and exhaust, high concentration oxygen jet atomization and wet airway, which reduces patients’ discomfort reactions; the cabin is spacious and bright, and the communication inside and outside the cabin is equipped with wired communication and TV monitoring, and the team of medical and nursing technology of our department has rich ability and experience in rescuing and treating critically ill patients inside the cabin. Our department has won many scientific research funds from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, and has been awarded more than ten scientific and technological progress awards in Beijing.
