Cistanchis can be used by hypertensive patients in general, but it is not suitable for all hypertensive patients and should be used under the guidance of a doctor. Cistanchis is sweet, salty and warm in nature, and it enters the large intestine meridian and kidney meridian. It has the effects of moistening the intestines and relaxing the bowels, warming and tonifying kidney yang (warming and replenishing the yang energy of the kidneys), and replenishing the vital essence and blood; thus, it can be used for hypertensive patients with impotence and infertility due to lack of kidney yang (lack of yang energy in the kidneys), soreness in the lower back and knees, as well as for patients with dryness of the intestines and constipation. However, Cistanchis should not be used in patients with constipation due to hot constipation, loose bowel movements, or excessive Yin deficiency (deficiency of Yin essence and hyperactivity of deficiency fire in the body), and the adverse effects are not yet clear. During the use of Cistanchis in hypertensive patients, do not eat spicy and greasy food; discontinue the use of Cistanchis immediately if discomfort occurs after taking the drug. Hypertensive patients are advised to consult a doctor in time if they have any discomfort, and not to use drugs blindly to avoid discomfort.
