The acute phase of spinal cord injury can be treated with medication and surgery. The recovery and sequelae period is mainly treated by rehabilitation. 1. Drug therapy, the main application of drugs are glucocorticoids, gangliosides, nerve growth factor, mannitol and so on. (1) Glucocorticoid drugs such as methylprednisolone are used to reduce the inflammatory reaction and improve the blood flow in the spinal cord. (2) Gangliosides are used to protect nerves as well as enhance nerve regeneration. (3) Nerve growth factors such as murine nerve growth factor can reduce necrosis of nerve cells and promote recovery of sensory function. (4) Mannitol can reduce nerve edema and decrease compression. 2. Surgical treatment modalities include axial traction, manipulative repositioning and incisional decompression and repositioning. (1) Axial traction is used in patients whose fractures are accompanied by cervical subluxation, which can reduce the compression of the spinal cord. (2) Incisional decompression and internal fixation: it is used to remove broken bones and herniated discs. If spinal cord injury is diagnosed, it is recommended to consult the doctor in time and standardize the treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
