Prevention of foreign bodies in the esophagus and trachea

In layman’s terms, a foreign body in the esophagus is a solid object that is not supposed to be eaten, but is stuck in the mouth, throat, esophagus, gastrointestinal tract, etc., or is not stuck but may be harmful to the baby. A foreign body in the trachea is better understood as a solid that enters the trachea and cannot exit. The common foreign bodies in the esophagus of small children are mainly fish spines, bones, coins, toys, etc. Little babies do not have a strong sense of self-protection, and in the process of eating or playing, it is easy to be stuck by fish spines, bones, or spit out coins by mistake. Therefore, when eating fish with bones, meat to shave the bones clean, try not to eat a lot of small thorns of fish. Do not play while eating. Some small objects in the house should be hidden well. Here to remind the mother, try not to wear the kind of small beads, small objects decorated clothes, because when holding the baby, the baby may grab those small accessories down, stuffed into the mouth to eat, which is very dangerous. If you are stuck with a fish bone or suspect that you have eaten a foreign body, then you should come to the hospital as soon as possible. Yesterday, I chatted with my ENT classmate about several tracheal foreign bodies she had recently encountered, and I have also encountered several tracheal foreign bodies, so I have a deep understanding of tracheal foreign bodies, plus the fact that tracheal foreign bodies themselves are very dangerous, so I will focus on tracheal foreign bodies here. A large sample of research (more than 500 cases) shows that tracheal foreign bodies are mostly concentrated in small children under the age of 3 (some more than 10 years old), due to the poor chewing function of small children, larynx protection function is not sound, and active, lack of self-protection awareness, often playing and crying when eating, the mouth is easy to choke and cough into the trachea, causing tracheal foreign bodies. Babies with tracheal foreign bodies are always at risk of choking and death. So, what can easily cause a foreign body in the trachea? Studies show that more than 90% of foreign bodies are the following: melons, peanuts, beans, nuts, fruit scraps, chicken and fish bones. 87% of tracheal foreign bodies are caused when small children play with objects in their mouths. Therefore, it is important to hide these snacks and small objects at home, especially during the New Year holidays, when there are guests who can’t take care of their little ones and have to entertain them, so be especially careful. And don’t play and joke around while eating. What are the symptoms of a foreign body in the trachea? Most of them will have irritating cough, paroxysmal breathlessness. Even difficulty breathing and a blue face. Some parents will panic when they encounter this situation. In this case, they should immediately go to the hospital for emergency treatment, and if possible, immediately go to the ENT department of a large hospital.
