What does thymic insufficiency mean?

Incomplete thymic degeneration refers to an abnormal physical condition in which the thymic tissue is not completely adipose in adulthood and some thymic tissue remains. In normal people, the thymus tissue will gradually degenerate and become fatty after adulthood. In a small percentage of the population, the thymus tissue degenerates incompletely and is diagnosed as thymic insufficiency when a CT scan reveals soft tissue in the thymus area. Thymic insufficiency may not have any symptoms, but in some people, thymic insufficiency can cause myasthenia gravis. Thymic degenerative insufficiency, once it causes clinical symptoms, requires prompt medical observation and localized surgical excision under the guidance of a clinician, and in most cases complete recovery can be achieved after excision.
