What are leuprolide acetate microspheres for?

Leuprolide acetate microspheres are gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, which are used clinically for the treatment of endometriosis, adenomyosis, and uterine fibroids, as well as for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive premenopausal breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other diseases. Leuprolide acetate microspheres can inhibit the pituitary gland from producing and releasing gonadotropins, leading to a significant decrease in the level of ovarian hormones, thus causing temporary amenorrhea, also known as pharmacologic ovariectomy. Leuprolide acetate microspheres are mainly used to treat endometriosis or adenomyosis in the clinic, and can relieve the symptoms of dysmenorrhea. Uterine fibroids are estrogen-dependent tumors. If a near-menopausal woman has uterine fibroids, leuprolide acetate microspheres can also be injected first, which can shrink the fibroids or improve the discomfort. If a premenopausal woman has estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer or a man has estrogen receptor-positive prostate cancer, this drug can also be used to treat the disease by lowering the estrogen in the body. However, after using leuprolide acetate microspheres, patients may experience hot flashes, loss of libido, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis and other adverse reactions. The use of drugs, need to strictly follow the doctor’s instructions.
