When to take iron supplements

The timing of iron supplementation for children needs to be determined by the iron supplement chosen. Some iron supplements need to be taken orally before meals, while others need to be taken after meals. For iron supplementation treatment, iron dextran can be used, which needs to be taken after meals and the dose is calculated according to body weight. You can also choose iron succinate, which needs to be taken on an empty stomach before meals. No matter which iron supplement is taken, it needs to be taken at the same time with vitamin C or fruit juice to facilitate the absorption of iron. After the iron supplementation treatment, the blood routine must be rechecked, and when the hemoglobin returns to normal, the iron supplementation should be continued for at least 1 month. Iron deficiency can lead to pediatric anemia, mostly seen in children aged 8-18 months. Nutritional anemia is also one of the four most common diseases in pediatrics. Children can present with pale or yellow face, pale lips, loss of appetite, weakened resistance, and susceptibility to upper respiratory tract infections.
