Infectious mononucleosis is an acute self-limiting infectious disease caused mainly by infection with the EBV. Typical clinical symptoms are fever, pharyngitis and enlarged lymph nodes. Treatment is mainly symptomatic and antiviral, so hospitalization is required. If the patient has fever and sore throat, saline gargle or watermelon cream lozenges can be given. For those with high fever and severe sore throat, pay attention to secondary bacterial infection in the pharynx, pharyngeal test paper culture can be done, and antibiotics can also be used. Glucocorticoids may be considered for those with coexisting myocarditis, severe hepatitis, hemolytic anemia or bleeding due to thrombocytopenia. Antiviral treatment is the application of ganciclovir and interferon. Early treatment can relieve the symptoms and reduce the amount of pharyngeal detoxification.
