How long does it take for hepatitis B antibodies to disappear

There is no definite time for how long the hepatitis B antibodies will disappear, but the protective effect of the antibodies can last up to about 30 years. Hepatitis B antibodies are due to the body’s positive immune response to the vaccine and refer to a hepatitis B virus surface antibody (anti-HBs) titer of >10mIU/mL. Although the anti-HBs titer decreases gradually, the protective effect lasts longer. The protective effect of the vaccine is estimated to last up to 30 years in individuals who respond to the first vaccine series. Even when anti-HBs levels are reduced or undetectable, the vaccine still prevents clinical disease due to the stimulation of memory cells (capable of triggering a recall response upon viral attack) and long-term cellular immunity. Post-vaccination antibody testing is only indicated for specific groups of people who are at persistent risk and/or have a low likelihood of responding to the vaccine, and the general healthy population does not need to be overly concerned about whether or not the antibodies will disappear. Hepatitis B antibodies are effective in preventing hepatitis B virus infection, and the general population should be vaccinated against hepatitis B regularly.
