What a biopsy of a gastric polyp represents

Gastric polyp biopsy actually means that the polyp tissue is removed with biopsy forceps under the gastroscope for pathological examination, and the removed tissue is made into wax slices and placed under the microscope to see the cell morphology so that it can be characterized. Gastric polyps can be either hyperplastic or adenomatous because the type of polyps cannot be identified by visual observation under the gastroscope. Proliferative polyps are usually not cancerous, while adenomatous polyps have a tendency to become cancerous, so a biopsy must be performed to determine the nature of the polyp for the next step of treatment.
