What is a contusion

A contusion is an injury that is primarily altered by a blunt object that causes bleeding within and under the skin and the soft tissues of the patient’s injury site. A contusion, in general, refers to a closed injury. The parenchymal alteration of contusion is the result of rupture and bleeding of relatively small blood vessels within the soft tissues, which include small veins or small arteries that bleed from the injury, and blood within the more lax subcutaneous connective tissue and fatty layers, mainly manifesting as intracardiac or subcutaneous blood staining. The main manifestation of contusion is pain, and the degree of pain should be related to the degree of contusion, the nature of the contusion and the site of injury, especially if the injury is more serious and close to the central nervous system, and the pain is also more serious; and the phenomenon of swelling of the contusion site, swelling is due to bleeding in the soft tissues of the injury site, resulting in inflammatory reaction exudation If the contusion is serious, it may lead to functional limitation, especially the functional impairment of the limb, which is also a common clinical manifestation of the contusion. The first step is to take adequate rest, pay attention to the protection of the contusion site to avoid re-injury, elevate the injured area at rest, which can promote the role of swelling, and apply cold compresses to the contusion site at the early stage of injury, as well as oral medication to relax the tendons and blood under the guidance of a physician, anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as topical medication when necessary, and oral analgesic drugs when necessary. Consider the relevant examination when necessary.
