What is congenital cataract

1.What is congenital cataract? Congenital cataract is a blindness-causing lens disease that causes a decrease in its own transparency due to abnormal lens metabolism during the embryonic period. The incidence of this disease is about 0.01%-0.06%, which is the second most common blinding eye disease in children, and about one-third of the patients are related to heredity. 2.How to treat congenital cataract? For congenital cataracts that obviously affect vision, cataract extraction should be performed as early as possible. After surgery, glasses should be worn and amblyopia training should be conducted. 3.What are the reasons why patients cannot improve their vision after congenital cataract treatment? There are various reasons, but the most common reason is the neglect of amblyopia treatment after surgery. One week after congenital cataract surgery, glasses should be fitted immediately. If the cataract removal has been performed with an IOL value in at the same time, an optometry should be given 1 month after surgery and appropriate glasses should be fitted according to the degree of residual refractive error. Therefore, the key to successful treatment of congenital cataract is early surgery to remove the form deprivation factor and persistent amblyopia treatment based on accurate refractive correction.
