The common causes of hip pain are muscle soreness due to exertion, pear-shaped muscle syndrome, and nerve compression due to lumbar disc herniation. If there is prolonged running or cycling, it will easily lead to strain of the hip muscles and localized soreness, which can generally be treated by rest, local heat physiotherapy, or safflower oil and other medications. If it is caused by a herniated lumbar disc pressing on the nerve, it can be treated by traction, and in serious cases, surgery should be considered.
