What is the cause of hip pain?

Hip pain can be a problem caused by a variety of diseases such as herpes zoster, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar strain, pear-shaped muscle syndrome, ischaemic necrosis of the femoral head, tuberculosis, etc. Each disease causing hip pain is accompanied by different concurrent symptoms, e.g. patients with lumbar disc herniation may have symptoms such as weakness, numbness and intermittent claudication in the lower limbs; patients with herpes zoster can be seen with clusters of blisters appearing on the skin of the hip, etc., whereby they can be identified.
