The female urethra is in the perineum, it is wrapped around the labia majora and labia minora and is not usually exposed outside the body. In the average female patient, her urethra is just above the vagina. A woman has three openings in the perineum, one at the top is the urethra, the middle is the vagina, and the bottom is the anus. When you pull the labia majora apart you will see the labia minora, in the innermost part of the labia minora you can see the female urethra, which is a small passage above the vagina, the female urethra is very hidden. The proximity of the female urethra to the vagina causes women to be prone to urinary tract infections.
