Intravenous thrombolytic therapy for acute cerebral infarction

Recently, the morbidity and mortality rate of cerebral infarction has been increasing year by year due to the improvement of economic level and the aging of the population. Due to the lack of awareness of most people about what should be done in the acute phase of cerebral infarction, the timing of treatment is often delayed, leaving paralysis or even death. “Time is brain”, and receiving the right treatment as soon as possible during the acute phase of cerebral infarction onset will greatly improve the patient’s prognosis. The first step is to quickly identify acute cerebral infarction. Be highly alert to sudden onset, such as confusion, limb weakness, inability to speak, and other symptoms. Once found, call 120 for medical attention immediately. Irreversible changes in normal brain tissue may occur after 4.5 hours of ischemia, and brain cell necrosis will occur in about 8 hours. If a patient with cerebral infarction can get intravenous thrombolytic drug treatment within 4.5 hours, or get treatment such as arterial thrombolysis or mechanical embolization within 4.5 to 8 hours, it is possible to release the embolism and restore oxygen and blood supply before complete infarction of brain cells occurs, thus restoring all or partial functions. Intravenous drug thrombolysis has now been proven to be the most effective treatment for the acute phase of cerebral infarction. Professor Tong Zhiyong from the Department of Neurosurgery of China Medical University Hospital 1 suggests that thrombolytic therapy is not 100% successful, and patients should seek medical attention as soon as possible within the time window of 4.5 hours after the onset of the disease, and doctors also need time for diagnosis and treatment, so it is more important to rush to the hospital as soon as possible after the onset of the disease. Before intravenous thrombolysis, it is necessary to accurately determine whether there are indications, and patients should go to a qualified and experienced hospital. The most crucial thing is to “treat the disease before it happens”. We should pay attention to prevention before acute cerebral infarction occurs, have regular medical checkups, and undergo preventive surgery if necessary to kill the disease in the cradle.
