Efficacy and Effects of Yuanhu Chenpi

The efficacy and effects of Yuanhu Chenpi include drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and dissolving phlegm), and so on.
1. The main effects of Chen Pi are to dissolve phlegm and dry dampness, regulate qi and strengthen the spleen. It is mainly used for treating vomiting of blood, poor appetite, distention and fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), dampness obstructing the middle Jiao (dampness obstructing the function of the spleen and stomach), and stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach.
It is often used in combination with herbs such as Houpu and Cangzhu, such as Pingtong San. It is also used in the treatment of diarrhea (hiccups) and vomiting, excessive phlegm, cough, cold phlegm, and damp phlegm, e.g. Er Chen Tang. It can also be used to treat chest paralysis (chest tightness and pain), and is often combined with herbs such as ginger and Citrus aurantium, such as Tangerine Peel Citrus aurantium and Ginger Soup.
2. Yuan Hu, or Xuan Hu Suo, is mainly used to relieve pain, move qi, and invigorate blood circulation. It can be used to treat pain from bruises and swelling, postpartum stasis, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea, heart pain and chest paralysis, pain in the epigastrium, pain in the chest and ribs, and stagnation of qi and blood.
It is often used in combination with neem, danshen, jinlingzi, guizhi, and guayu, for example, Yanhusuo San.
