Sacral cyst surgery requires general anesthesia. The surgery requires incision of the skin and subcutaneous tissues of the lumbosacral region as well as incision of the muscles, and the use of retractors to retract the muscles in order to expose the surgical area. The use of muscle relaxants can affect the respiratory muscles and cause respiratory arrest, which requires general anesthesia and a ventilator. During the surgery, the bone of the sacrum needs to be occluded and the adhesions between the cyst and the nerve root need to be separated, causing the patient severe numbness and pain in the lower limbs and reflex muscle contraction caused by nerve stimulation, and general anesthesia must be used, otherwise the patient has unbearable pain and has difficulty in insisting on completing the length of the surgery of 3-4 hours.
