Is there a high recurrence rate of varicocele?

With varicocele, the recurrence rate after surgery is still relatively high, usually around 30%. Why is it high? Because varicose veins are formed for several reasons. The surgery only gets rid of the varicose veins, but not the causes of their formation. The reasons are mainly the increased pressure in the veins, because the left spermatic vein has a longer stroke and converges into the left vein at a right angle, forming a nutcracker phenomenon, and the superior mesenteric artery and aorta compress the left vein, so it can lead to the reflux of the left spermatic vein, obstruction or reflux. Secondly, prolonged standing can lead to poor blood return in the spermatic veins, and also weak connective tissue around the spermatic veins and missing venous valves can lead to the occurrence of varicose veins. Spermatic vein surgery only gets rid of the varicocele, but not the primary disease of the surgery.
